What is it?
The anti-religion religion.
The atheist cult.
Does it pass the CULTSTOPPERS 5-point cult test?
1) Self-appointed messianic leader?
Dr. Dale Jenkins. Check. Arguably the world's most famous atheist, if he's the one doing the arguing. A man who doesn't believe in God, but quite possibly believes he IS God. Nobody loves preaching the futility of existence to a congregation more than Jenkins.
2) Elitist totalitarian structure?
The atheist movement community is about the most condescending, classist group of zealots you could ever have the misfortune to meet in the conference facilities of a 3-Star hotel. They've got it right, everyone else has got it wrong. They refuse to even acknowledge the possibility than any of their theories might be flawed. Wait, doesn't that sound a bit like organized religion? Their religion is nothing and we're all morons for thinking that something this complicated might actually have a creator!
3) Promise of higher power?
Jenkins promises something far greater than eternal life after death. The smug, secure knowledge that there is absolutely NOTHING after death. Consciousness comes into being and then disappears. What a depressing asshole!
4) Mind control techniques?
Radical rhetoric, audio books, podcasts, religion-bashing web forums - the modern-day methods of controlling the minds of white, middle-class liberals.
5) Heavy financial commitment?
If people would only stop buying Dr. Jenkins' books and tickets to his patronizing lectures, he might just go away.
